This weekend (February 1st) kicks off Take Your Child to the Library Week.

The Greening Libraries crew will be offering a special program for the whole family during the last hour of our weekly Sunnyside and Broadway compost collections on Saturday. Come learn about where the food scraps you bring to the Queens Library drop-off locations are taken and how they break down into plant food.

We will also talk about different ways that you can compost at home including using worms (vermicompost), the bokashi (fermentation) method, and composting outdoors (decomposition). Finally, we will talk about the new composting program the City and Department of Sanitation are rolling out in each borough.
